Routine OBC

Introduction to this rather uniqe service

What if your next urgent shipment

did not need an emergency price tag?

Could urgent onboard courier shipping be more predictable—and more cost-efficient? OBC and hand-carry services are often booked when every hour matters. Yet customers commonly receive a single all-inclusive quote with limited visibility into the underlying travel costs, fees, and markups. A dedicated courier remains the right solution for many critical shipments, but recurring transport needs may create an opportunity for a smarter alternative.

Start by looking at your shipping pattern:

  • Which destinations receive most of your urgent hand-carry or onboard courier shipments?

  • How frequently do you send time-critical shipments on the same routes?

  • Do express courier costs vary significantly from one urgent booking to the next?

A different approach: consolidated OBC on scheduled routes. CBL Norway combines planned onboard courier departures with shared transport capacity. For businesses with recurring urgent shipments, this creates access to fast, supervised delivery without arranging a separate dedicated journey every time.

What could scheduled consolidated OBC mean for your business?

  • More predictable service through planned onboard courier departures on selected routes.

  • Better long-term cost control by sharing available courier capacity instead of booking every shipment as a standalone journey.

  • A smoother DAP shipping process with a clearer transport plan and support for coordinating the customs journey.

Could your most frequently used OBC route become a scheduled service? Explore the value proposition below to see how consolidated onboard courier shipping can provide a practical balance of speed, control, and cost efficiency.

How do we establish an OBC Trade Lane?

When we set up consolidated routine routes, it is done based on three criterias:

  • We identify similarity in segments, industries, city-pairs (trade lanes) where Stavanger, Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim are designated point of departure.

  • The estimated volume of planned routine shipments or ad-hoc handcarry need.

  • Benchmarking of the OBC cost on the proposed trade lane. For instance it is interesting to note that the average cost of a handcarry from Stavanger to Aberdeen lies between NOK 15000 to NOK 25000.

Based on our consolidation model, is it feasible to offer repetitive services on the trade lane, provided that we fill the capacity of 3 x crates with 60 kg payload combined?

When Is Consolidated Onboard Courier the Right Shipping Solution?

Consolidated onboard courier (OBC) is a scheduled express shipping service for urgent, sensitive, or high-value consignments. By sharing courier capacity, businesses gain faster and more controlled transport than standard air freight—without the full cost of a dedicated emergency courier. The questions below explain when this solution may be suitable.

How does this work?

  • Parcel collection and consolidation: CBL arranges shipment of your parcels to Stavanger for secure freight consolidation.*

  • Secure transport packaging: Each parcel is numbered, packed in a durable aluminium transport case, and securely locked.

  • Shipment tracking and updates: You receive status updates at pre-defined milestones throughout the journey.

  • Customs clearance and local delivery: After arrival and customs clearance, the shipment is transferred to our local logistics partner for final delivery.

  • Hand-carry and Eyes-On Courier service: Time-critical documents and smaller shipments remain with the onboard courier through to delivery.
